The fragmented American banking industry is a creature of habit, a creature of convenience in servicing credit to local business and consumers and a creature of stubborn resistance to change by the large numbers of locally employed people (running into the thousands at each regional bank)

The raging fire, putting the financial industry at risk, has been wished away since the bank runs in March and in April by focusing on faulty risk management at Silicon Valley Bank and aggressive lending practices at First Republic

However, a magic wand will not dose the flames so easily if the market is any indication

20 bank stocks have lost more than 40% of their value since 3 months and another 54 have lost more than 20% - totaling 74 (out of 85 banks in our selection)
