Non-durable consumer products, food and drink, tobacco and alcohol, household and personal items, are deemed to belong to life's essentials and as such, they are expected to wither a market downturn even if the sector will not expand very much in a growing economy

Because the manufacturers and distributors of these Staples are mostly the familiar names of Coca Cola , Wal-Mart Invalid tag asset, Procter & Gamble or Johnson & Johnson and a few more, the performance / risk profiles of the funds are very similar
